Am spending the final night of my US trip here in San Francisco...
But oh dear, the huge earthquake that just struck north-eastern Japan...
At 8.4 on the Ritcher scale... apparently one of the top five strongest earthquakes recorded...
Tsunamis of up to 7 meters sweeping across the land...
The immense debris, the floating cars, torn houses, overturned boats, flooded cities, and burning oil refineries...
Throughout my residence in Japan, I have never seen anything quite like these before...
I hope the damage will not be too widespread... and that the tsunami will not cause other nations much damage as it is doing to Japan...
Also, hope Haneda International Airport where I am flying through on 13th, will not be closed...
But oh oh, a tsunami watch for US west coast was just announced...
A tsunami might come to the US west coast at around 8:00 am tomorrow, local time...
Oh oh... oh oh...
Gardening, photography, food, fishing, traveling, scuba diving, life in Japan, plus of course, news and views of being away from home...
Oh dear...

Ive seen the news, so devastingly destructive, the earthquake and the tsunami! Can it be worst than Acheh? Hope you have a safe journey home Mr Lrong.

ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to get back home safely. The devastation caused by tsunami is unbelievable. I hope that when the rescuers can get through that they will find many of the missing still alive.

ReplyDeleteI think you will be very worried about your home in Japan and I wish that you will return safely, soonest possible. We can only watch in horror at the news and events that are unfolding before our eyes. I really hope that there will be no more earthquake and aftershocks and the nuclear plant problems will be solved and prevented. Lrong, I am so glad your wife is with you during this trip to US, at least you know that she is safe and you have each other to share your worries, ancieties and stress. It may be a long wait for the transport home, but meanwhile, you need to rest and keep healthy as you will need all the energy later. My sympathies and condolences to the people of Japan and prayers for a quick recovery and minimum casulties.

Autumn Belle... think our home should be ok judging from the local news we get from the internet... you are right about my wife being with me on this trip... I would have been very lonely and unsettled if I were going through this by myself...
also, we are lucky to have a friend here in LA where we can stay with while we wait for a flight to take us home...

I'm so sorry you're detained in LA but happy you have a friend you can stay with. Fortunate that airport open in Japan so you are able to arrange a flight. I hope all of your kind neighbors are alright and your home!
